Senna Black Sweatshirt by Naketano, $95

Naketano is a contemporary fashion project-turned-brand, initiated in the fall of 2004.  It is the name of an idea, a notion of what it is that defines genuine streetfashion design.  Naketano is an independent, small streetfashion company that is 100% owned and run by young fashion professionals from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds, whose common denominator is that they all grew up in Germany.

The word Naketano is a composition of the ancient Germanic term "naket" and the Romanic term “tano”.  The choice of a combination of a Germanic and Romanic (the common denominator for all European languages) term was consciously made to represent everyone behind the brand.  Naketano can best be translated as the worth of ones’ personal appearance.  The name leads directly to the Naketano mission of creating favorite pieces.

Nicole Christensen, Naketano´s head designer, believes that a fashion designer receives the ultimate praise when a piece of clothing becomes a favorite piece, when one buys and wears other garments solely to combine them with the favorite piece.  This is the benchmark by which Naketano measures its pieces and the goal it aims to reach.  Choosing the right fabric is a lengthy and tedious process for this brand.  The brand that is always marked by vivid and bright colors, that strive to create garments that are comfortable but not ungraceful, and that provides unusual cuts and outrageous color combinations, but at the very core is always distinctly female and light.

Even though the people behind Naketano have been in the streetfashion business for almost a decade, the brand is new and not widely distributed as of yet.  Naketano is available online as well as from a few contemporary streetfashion stores in the U.S.

We received the Senna Black from their Sweatshirt Collection.  It retails for 64,90 Euros which converts to about $95 depending on the exchange rate.

The first time I laid eyes on the sweatshirt, I knew I made a new friend.  Near boiling is the ideal temperature for me, I am so not a cold weather person.  I’d exchange a winter season for another summer anytime.  However, I must say that when I put the Senna sweatshirt on, I started to not feel as much disdain for the coming winter.  It was so soft, and comfy, and warm.

The typical sweatshirt is one that I would wear in the comfort of my home.  It’s not exactly stylish-wear.  All sweatshirts look the same and their cuts make whoever’s wearing it look like the Pillsbury dough boy – round and puffy.

That is up until I received this sweatshirt from Naketano.  Everything about it is unlike the typical sweatshirt.  First, the neckline – sort of a boat neck with a pink interior lining – very chic.  Second, the length – it’s tunic style, almost a mini dress.  In fact the typical waistband is really more of a hip band.  It’s ribbed and extra wide.  The cut is very slimming.  It actually looks very feminine.  Now I’m looking forward to the cold weather so I can wear this out – a lot.  A new favorite?  You bet ya!  I don't even think this piece should be called a sweatshirt, that's just demeaning.

Now just as important as the fashion quotient is the comfort quotient.  What I like about the Senna sweatshirt is that it’s warm enough that I don’t have to wear a bulky jacket or coat on top of if (unless it’s freezing of course).  It’s fabulous with a pair of leggings and bright skimmers.  Skinny jeans and flat boots would be amazing for colder outings.

If you’ve been looking for a cold-weather top that's as stylish as it is comfortable, you can stop because we just found it for you!  Check out Naketano's collection.  Maybe you'll find a new favorite, I certainly did.
