Distressed Goth Girl Burnout Tee by Furlesque, $49

It all started with Dion Macellari’s most recent artwork collection called Pop Culture Victims.  Long time artistic collaborator Maggie Maki thought the pop culture victims would make for perfect limited edition tees.

With Maggie as the brainchild and clotheshorse and Dion as the artist, they formed Furlesque a year ago.  With her entrepreneurial spirit and great eye for fashion, what started out as an idea for limited edition tees has turned into a label that is now carried in Los Angeles boutiques as well as in Furlesque’s online store.

We received the short sleeve Distressed Burnout Goth Girl Tee in green.  It’s a cotton poly blend silk screened tee that is made in the USA.  It retails for $49 and is also available in two other colors - faded black and faded cherry.  If you prefer long sleeves, there’s a brown version that is 100% cotton and retails for $55.

This is one cool tee!  The artwork rocks and the semi see-through style of the shirt is super hip.  The shirt is a fusion of gauzy and opaque.  The gauzy parts are of course sheer, very sexy.  It’s so soft that when I have it on, I almost feel like I’m not wearing anything at all.  The fit is snug but comfortable, not tight.

For a really funky look, wear it with a fuschia bra because the color comes through the sheer areas and it matches the rose artwork in the bottom of the shirt.  Pair it up with skinny jeans and strappy sandals, and you’re ready for a night out.

With the weather in Los Angeles still in the warm side, I can still wear this gauzy shirt without a jacket on during the day.  At night, it does cool down but it’s perfect for layering.  It pairs up really well with a black plaid jacket, especially if you zip it down enough to where you can see the girl’s face peeking out.

Speaking of the girl, she is supposed to be a pop culture victim.  Translation - someone who is obsessed with pop culture – MTV generation, celebrity gossip, etc.  Personally, I think that she should mean whatever the wearer wants her to be.  For me, with her head being so much larger than her body, I prefer to think of her as someone who’s head rules her body.  She’s not only, chic and hip.  Most importantly, she’s smart and that is what this generation should be all about.  The artwork on the back side is less contentious but just as open to interpretation.  It’s a tree with lots of branches, no leaves.  This one I choose to interpret literally – it’s a tree – very Ansel Adams.  I like it.

So, if you want to have a piece of Dion and Maggie’s creations, save the gas and head on over to their online shop.  They ship for free anywhere in the U.S.  Use the gas money to buy a trashy magazine, I mean a good book!
