Rainforest Walnut Body Polish from Sylvia & Marcos, $32

Chiara Paradis founded Sylvia & Marcos as a tribute to her grandparents, in honor of her families’ Spanish heritage. Sylvia and Marcos, the company’s namesakes lived during simpler times when love, family, and respect for the land were the important things in life. They were exceptional individuals with a lifelong love for one another, for life itself, and for life’s beauty.

Sylvia & Marcos takes its namesakes respect for the land earnestly. Their skin care line is completely natural and they do not test on animals. Their current line include body crèmes, soaks, and body scrubs.

We received the Rainforest Walnut Body Polish from their line of body scrubs. It retails for $32.

The first thing I noticed about the polish is the settling of the grains in the bottom of the jar. The polish did not come with any instructions or additional information so I wasn’t sure if this was normal. I contacted customer service and they were absolutely incredible. The representative I communicated with had an excellent grasp of the products and knowledgably answered all of my questions. The personal service I received more than made up for the lack of product information.

It turns out that the settling is indeed normal. Being that the polish is completely natural, it does not contain any of the chemicals that bring about the free suspension that prevents the settling. Therefore the polish has to be mixed before using, typically with your fingers.

The recommended use is three times per week, as needed. Apparently, I needed it a lot this week since I’ve already used it more than three times. It is no wonder that this polish is a customer favorite.

The first time I used it, I didn’t know what to expect. I did my usual shower routine (except for shaving), then I massaged the polish in. It is best to use your hands as opposed to a mesh pouf or sponge. After I rinsed off, I immediately noticed how smooth my skin felt. Water was sliding off of it. I didn’t even feel I needed to apply lotion afterwards so I skipped it.

The following day was long and tiring. I wanted to freshen up with a shower before bed, and wanted to use the polish again not because my skin needed any more exfoliation, but because it helped me unwind the previous day. What a way to slow down after a hectic day. The smell of the polish all over my body is so refreshing, its natural fragrance invogating. At the same time, the process of massaging the grains of the polish onto my skin is so calming, soothing, and totally relaxing. It's almost as if I'm scrubbing the tiredness off of me and polishing off to reveal a renewed being. I started to think this polish is going to be a part of my shower routine at the end of every long day.

If your workdays run into the night, your weekend's an extension of your workdays, and you can’t seem to find the time to rest, give this polish a try. I can’t determine which I like more – the smooth skin it gives me, or the relaxation it provides me. Hmmm, I guess I'll just have to go back in the shower to help me decide...
